The number of rigs working onshore in the Lower 48 U.S. states during the week ended June 29, fell for the third consecutive week, data from oilfield services firm Baker Hughes, a GE company, reveals.
Last week, the number of working rigs dropped to 1,016, down seven rigs from one week earlier.
In the last three weeks, the number of rigs taken offline totals 15, Kallanish Energy calculates.
The latest rig count total is up 105 working rigs, or 11.5%, from the year-ago total of 911, and is up a strong 615 working rigs, or 153.3%, from two years ago, when 401 rigs were working.
Looking at individual drilling-area results, five areas in the Lower 48 reported a week-to-week increase in working rigs, eight recorded a drop in rigs, and 17 areas reported no week-to-week change in working rigs.
Texas and Louisiana each reported the biggest loss on a week-to-week comparison: three rigs. Texas dropped to 529 working rigs, while Louisiana fell to 33.
Alabama lost two rigs on a week-to-week comparison, but the Deep South state’s loss took its total working-rig count to zero.
