Stored working gas climbs, still behind year-ago, five-year avg.

Working natural gas continued to be added to underground storage during the week ended Nov. 2, but remains far behind year-ago and five-year average totals by billions of cubic feet, the Energy Information Administration reported.

For the week ended Nov. 2, 65 billion cubic feet (Bcf) of working gas was added to storage in the Lower 48 U.S. states, according to EIA, a 2.1% week-to-week increase.

Total gas in storage at Nov. 2 stood at 3.21 trillion cubic feet (Tcf), up from 3.14 Tcf one week earlier. (All numbers are rounded.)

The latest total was down 580 Bcf, or 15.3%, from the year-ago total of 3.79 Tcf, and was down 621 Bcf, or 16.2%, from the five-year average of 3.83 Tcf, Kallanish Energy reports.

All five regions EIA divides the Lower 48 into to track stored working gas, with the largest injection in the South Central region. A total of 30 Bcf, or 3.3% of the previous week’s total in storage was added during the week of Nov. 2. That brought the region’s total to 949 Bcf, down 261 Bcf, or 21.6%, from the year-ago total of 1.21 Tcf, and down 297 Bcf, or 23.8%, from the five-year average of 1.25 Tcf.

The Midwest region saw 24 Bcf in working gas added to storage, a 2.5% increase, bring stored produce to 980 Bcf. The Midwest total was down 131 Bcf, or 11.8%, from the year-ago total of 1.11 Tcf, and was down 113 Bcf, or 10.3%, from the five-year average of 1.09 Tcf.
