Petrochemical Opportunities Workshop

The abundance of natural gas in the Marcellus and the Utica is offering once in a generation opportunities in the petrochemical industry.  A workshop to help companies in the Marcellus and the Utica prepare for the downstream manufacturing opportunities is being presented on September 20th at the Kent State University, Tuscarawas Campus in New Philadelphia, Ohio. The Ohio Manufacturing Extension Partnership (OH MEP) and its affiliates are working with Catalyst Connection to inform manufacturing companies about existing and emerging opportunities in petrochemicals/chemicals and plastics. This one-day workshop will explain the benefits of entering the downstream petrochemical value chain and help companies create a plan to connect with industry players. We will focus on opportunities in the downstream petrochemical economy as a result of new natural gas refinery plants (such as Shell Chemical’s “cracker plant”) that are currently being built or planned. Manufacturing companies that use chemicals, plastics and advanced materials will benefit most from the workshop content.  The very low cost of natural gas in the Marcellus and the Utica make this workshop a must for these manufacturing. Below are some of the key points for the workshop.
  • Presentation about the downstream petrochemical industry and the latest news on the industry.
  • Case studies about manufacturing companies which have successfully sold products and services in these industries.
  • Strategy sessions to help each participant develop a customized plan to move forward in the downstream petrochemical economy.
